Partnering Event” in the field of Biomedical Imaging that is jointly organised by NCP*) and  IWT**) in Brussels, on October 8th.

The aim of the meeting is to facilitate the creation of research consortia willing to build a project in the field of Biomedical Imaging***). As a matter of fact several opportunities exist presently at the European level to support research projects in that particular field and our goal is thus to help people having an “Idea” in that field to meet other people coming from other European regions in order to strengthen the “idea” and to initiate the building of a project.

LifetecZONe wants to bring this partnering event to your attention, and hopes our region also can be represented in this. In practice, each participating region will bring at least 1 project idea and 4 to 5 SMEs, large enterprises and/or research organizations to the event. In guided brainstorming sessions it is intended to develop consortia with specific ideas for new research projects for near future programme calls. By concentrating on targeted regions, this event will provide an effective and efficient forum for developing joint projects and future networks for successful European projects.

The Idea does not need to be fully developed and must be described in 1 page maximum following the scheme:

  1. Short description of the prior art and expertise of the Idea proposer
  2. Short description of the Idea
  3. Short description of the added value of the expected results compared to the prior art
  4. Which are the competences needed to perform a complete research based on the Idea

The thought behind this partnering event is that several European programmes offer opportunities to fund collaborative projects on Biomedical Imaging, but for SME’s the threshold to enter such programmes might be high. However SMEs do have state-of-the-art expertise and bright ideas, but very often they don’t have the resources to get acquainted with R&D funding possibilities and procedures. They also have it difficult to enter the consortia that are being set-up to submit project proposals in R&D programme calls. LifetecZONe can be your intermediate in entering this consortium.

Just let us know your interested in participating on October 8th ,and we will introduce you to the partners in this event!

***)Biomedical imaging refers to medical imaging techniques used in biology, including molecular imaging and cellular imaging.

Molecular imaging enables the visualization of the cellular function and the follow-up of the molecular process in living organisms without perturbing them. The ability of molecular imaging to image through biomarkers fine molecular changes opens up an incredible number of exciting possibilities for medical application, including early detection and treatment of diseases. This technique also contributes to improving the treatment of disorders by optimizing the pre-clinical and clinical tests of new medication. They are also expected to have a major economic impact due to earlier and more precise diagnosis of diseases of such as cancer, and neurological and cardiovascular diseases. Other important veins of research are the imaging of gene expression and the development of novel biomarkers.

Medical imaging refers to the techniques and processes used to create images of the human body (or parts thereof) for clinical purposes or medical science.

Biological noninvasive imaging methods can play an important role in translational research bringing scientific discoveries into the clinic and clinical findings. To achieve such results international collaborative research is needed.
